A WORD FROM THE BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU READ ON THE INTERNET DEPARTMENT:

A popular Internet page claiming to provide interesting information about life in the 1500s is mostly, in fact, a pack of lies.  These are good clues: nowhere on the page does anyone: 1) indicate who created the page or  2) provide a list of sources for the information given.  Further, a careful reader will notice that the writing itself is not properly formal.  This too may be a hint that the information is not be reliable.

Barbara Mikkelson of the Urban Legends Reference Pages has gone to the trouble of researching many of the "facts" on the page, and showing how, in every case but one, the "fact" is a lie.   Further, Ms. Mikkelson has provided a list of books where you can find the real answers and a wealth of other fascinating information as well.    quiz

The page full of lies: http://www.zianet.com/wblase/endtimes/facts.htm .

The page with answers and proofs is here: http://www.snopes.com/language/phrases/1500.htm .
