Pierre Elliot Trudeau
Pierre’s
Personal Life
Trudeau had a father named Charles who was French-Canadian and a mother
named Grace who was Scottish-Canadian. They were very wealthy because Pierre’s
Father owned many gas stations and sold them for lots of money. Mr.
Trudeau was a shrimp as a child so he joined a fitness club in his preteens. An
unknown sponsor paid for a swimming pool to be built where Trudeau exercised. He
swam a total of twenty-four laps a day. After starting in the club, he had top
physical fitness until the end of his days. Pierre
attended Harvard University for his Master’s Degree in Political Economy, and
he succeeded. He later attended Montreal University for a law degree. He also
attended The London School of Economics. Trudeau
became Prime Minister in 1968 and three years later, he married Margaret
Sinclair. She was twenty years younger than him. They had three children of
their own. The couple divorced in 1984 after thirteen years of marriage. Pierre finally resigned on February 29th, 1984. In 1999, Trudeau’s son Michel died in an avalanche in B.C. After that Trudeau was never the same. He died sixteen years after is resignation on September 28, 2000. Political
Life
Trudeau was very popular with Canadians. The press helped a lot with his
fame causing TRUDEAU-MANIA. He made many amazing choices in his career. Pierre
appointed Mariel Fergusson as the first woman to speak for the Senate in 1972.
He made sure there were fair price and wage controls in 1975. He even promised
the French there would be a civil bilingual service.
Before the fame of being a Prime Minister, Pierre Elliot Trudeau had
other jobs some of them were:
A lawyer called in by the Quebec Bar. Trudeau was an advisor of the Privy
Council. He once did research for a company and once he even was an author.
Joined politics partly so he could fight against the separatism of
Quebec. Trudeau said he would retire and he did after losing 1979 election to
Joe Clark and the Conservatives. The next election Pierre
came out of retirement and won. In his final term Mr. Trudeau fought
against the separatists of Quebec. He played a major role in the victory of the
“NO” in the Quebec referendum.
When he finally
