Vincent Massey Parent Advisory Council Meeting
                     Tuesday, October 15th, 2002

                             At A Glance

Parents heard a Physical Education Presentation regarding
heart monitors.  A Heart Rate Monitor Proposal booklet,
which explains the pros and cons of the monitors in the
health curriculum - as well as the costs associated with the
monitors was circulated. 

School Principal, Mr. Osiowy reviewed the School
Development Plan and the six goals selected by the school
as priorities as well as the timelines associated with sharing
the plan with the public.  

A draft format for the Drug Awareness Presentation
scheduled for January 21st, 2003 was circulated.  The
presentation will be extremely informative and details will be
shared with all three high schools in the near future.  For

There were discussions around:
*   A perceived shortage of text books to allow each
    student access to their own textbook during the
    class. 
*   Discussion on the lack of standardization of
    progress.
    A concern was raised regarding the tracking of
    excused and unexcused absences. 

A Division Parent Liaison Committee survey was distributed
to members and is also available online at
www.brandonsd.mb.ca in the survey section.  The newly
formed committee's purpose appears below.
Purpose: The Division Parent Liaison Committee will work
in partnership to strengthen effective communication and
involvement between home, school and Division based upon
mutual respect of individual roles and contributions. 
This partnership serves to enhance the quality of public
education for all students and for our community.
