Course Description:
This course starts with the basics of technology and progresses through the assembly of a computer system. Features and functions of computer components are introduced, and then the process of preparing and installing the components is detailed in a step-by-step manner. Different operating systems are introduced including: DOS, Windows NT/2000 and the different editions of XP including Home, Professional and Media. Hardware fundamentals, the understanding of networks, printers and the understanding the physical components of a network are also covered. Hands-on experience, along with the review questions and worksheets, provides the foundation for students who will be taking the Comp TIA A= certification exam and continuing their studies in HP IT Essentials 2 – Network Operating Systems.Target Audience:
The target audience includes all learners who desire to pursue a career in information technology as a PC technician or a network administrator.Prerequisites:
The following prerequisites are beneficial, but not required:- Prior experience with computer hardware and command line interfaces

Unit Assignments that are not submitted by the completion of the related Chapter's/Unit's summative evaluation, a zero grade is given to the assignment(s).
No Food or Drink is allowed into any computer room with the exception of water. Water bottles may be placed on a paper towel on the back counter.
No computer games or internet chat programs are to be downloaded installed or played on these computers.
Any student arriving late or leaving the class MUST sign in/out with a time of arrival/departure and a reason.
It is the responsibility of the student to inform the teacher in advance of any known absence and it is the responsibility of the student to schedule any missed tests or quizzes and extensions for assignments to be handed in.
THE USE OF CELL PHONES IS NOT ALLOWED IN THIS CLASS. This includes, regular telephone use, text messaging, video capturing and Internet capable phones. As well, this includes any other cell phone application not listed above.
