Neelin Concert Choir
Instructor: Carolyn Gwyer
CHOIR 10G, 20G, 30S, 40S
The major emphasis of the Concert Choir is the rehearsal (3 lunch hours per week – see below) and performance of a wide variety of choral literature (from pop to Purcell!). Among our many activities, we do fall and winter rehearsal retreats, perform Neelin's Remembrance Day Ceremony, prepare two major programs (Christmas & Year-End), perform for our school for National Music Monday in May, and tour either locally (Spring 2009), within Manitoba (2010-2011: Parkland & Wpg), or within Canada (Spring 2010: Banff’s Rocky Mountain Music Festival). We also make every effort to participate annually in the Brandon Festival of the Arts and ChoralFest in Winnipeg. Other opportunities might include local or nearby concerts, events in Winnipeg, or workshops combining with other choirs.
Choir fees are $65, which includes a customized Choir sweater and offsets expenses for various activities throughout the year. Returning singers pay just $30. Students are provided with fundraising opportunities to assist with tour costs and have individual accounts with the school for this purpose. Concert Choir is strongly recommended for those students who are interested in auditioning for our Major Production.
All Concert Choir rehearsals are held at lunch hour, from 12.35-1.20pm, allowing 15 minutes beforehand to eat lunch and get to rehearsal on time. The rehearsal schedule for the coming school year is as follows:
- Mondays Girls’ Sectional
- Tuesdays Guys' Sectional
- Wednesdays Full Choir
- Fridays Full Choir
