The University of Winnipeg Varsity Girl ’s have had a very successful season so far. They finished regular season play in zone 12 undefeated and have captured two tournament titles at Kildonen East and Maples Collegiate. The Collegiate is lead in scoring by grade 11 wing Kenesha Giles. Other players to watch include point guard Raven Boulanger who also trained with the Canada Games team, as well as the core group of grade twelve’s on the Collegiate roster. This is a well rounded team that plays tough defense and has many threats offensively.

The Sanford Sabres team is composed of 10 athletes.  5 grade 12’s and 5 grade 11’s, with 7 of them being returnees to the varsity team.  Each athlete brings athleticism, leadership and skill to the team.  The team had many challenges and success throughout the season in tournaments, league play and playoffs.    The team defeated Morden in a best of 3 series to win the Zone IV banner. They then defeated St. James in an Inter-zone to earn a birth in Provincials.

This year has been very exciting. We hosted our first all girls Annual Charity Tournament. The girls had an opportunity to perform in front of the entire school playing a game they love, while raising money to be donated.
