Course Outline / Assessment

Course Title

  • Audio Visual Web Communications  ( AWC 31G)

Student Work

 Rationale:

Given the prevalence of the internet there can be a lot of disinformation and misinformation that young people have to examine critically these days. In this course students will use Web development tools, skills and the principles of good design to effectively communicate in this medium. Critical thought and analysis will be used throughout this course when developing and distributing information via the Internet. Students will continually apply new knowledge gained to ongoing projects in a team environment. Industry career possibilities and myths will also be examined both formally and informally.

 Timeline

  • Approximately  85 classes

 Assessment/Evaluation

To the left is the rough breakdown of the marking scheme for the course. This scheme may be subject to revision depending on the number of topics covered in the semester (due to the availability of software and/or hardware), the skills and abilities of  particular students or teams (weighting will favour the best outcome for a student in any given unit) and the time constraints inherent in development for the web (since most of the work shall be completed in class)
  • Project Team Dynamics ---10%

  • Readings Questions ---10%

  • Ongoing Semester projects ---30%

  • Final Web Project--- 50%

NB:

This course is done entirely in-class on the PCs. It is imperative that students attend regularly since lost activity, project and instructional time will be very hard to recoup. Missing too much time may be detrimental to the student's understanding of computer, web and other media concepts and might cause poor results for individual or project work. Flexibility with regard to deadlines for delivery of key elements of design will be up to the teacher based on students previous efforts or  a contract for better commitments in the future.
