Welcome to Grade 1-2 English

Mrs. Scinocca will be teaching Language Arts in the mornings and Ms. Chyzyk will be teaching Math, Science/Health in the afternoons.  We are looking forward to working together and concentrating on our respective areas of curriculum.  Your child will benefit from this kind of focus. Ms. Chyzyk will be teaching Reading Recovery in the mornings.  There are also many benefits to having your child in a multi-age classroom.  The grade two students become leaders and experts in teaching.  The grade one students are exposed to a more challenging and collaborative-based learning environment.  Throughout the years, Ms. Chyzyk, has optimized a concentration of professional development in teaching early literacy skills to children and has worked with First Nations' Professionals in developing culturally specific curriculum as well as teaching and learning strategies. Our classroom philosophies nurtures and respects a multi-cultural environment.  So far, we have 11 grade one students and 13 grade two students; 14 boys and 10 girls.  Six of our students are from China, three are from El Salvador and the remaining 15 students were born in Canada. Welcome to our truly international classroom!  We are both excited about the up and coming year and so are our students!
