  • Aboriginal Education Counsellor
  • Medical Follow-up Program Worker
  • Program Facilitators
  • Elementary Student Support Teacher

Student Support Services personnel maintain offices at the Brandon School Division Administration Office and conduct the majority of their work in the schools.

Student Support Services Team

Psychologist: The psychologist provides assessment and treatment for educational, emotional and behavioral difficulties. Follow-up services may involve collaborating with students, parents, teachers, school personnel and community professionals.

Social Worker: The social worker provides assessment and treatment services to individuals, families and groups. The social worker coordinates the efforts of school, home and community.

Speech-Language Pathologist: The speech-language pathologist assesses the needs of students in the areas of articulation, phonology, language, stuttering and voice. Speech-language therapy programs are designed to meet individual needs of students through direct treatment and/or consultation with school and home.

The Program Facilitator works in collaboration with families, school teams, other Divisional personnel and community agencies in order to coordinate services for students.

Aboriginal Education Counsellor: The Aboriginal Education Counsellor's primary role is to provide support and assistance to Aboriginal students, families and groups. Support may involve school-family mediation, education of school personnel in cultural issues and liaison with community agencies.

Elementary Student Support Program Teacher: The Elementary Student Support Program Teacher coordinates the Elementary Student Support Program (ESSP).  The ESSP is a Divisional program designed to assist students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 who are having significant social/emotional/behavioural difficulties coping in the classroom.  Students are referred to a Divisional committee that prioritizes students for service.  The ESSP teacher works with the student in his/her classroom and assists the school team with programming.

The Medication Follow-up Worker collaborates with parents, school personnel, Student Support Services personnel, physicians and community agencies to monitor the effectiveness of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) medication.
