My Grad Checklist

My Grade 12 Checklist

  • I have checked to make sure that I will have enough credits to get my high school diploma by June of this year.
  • I have confirmed that I will have taken all my mandatory or compulsory credits for my diploma by the end of June.
  • I know what a transcript is and I know how to get a transcript.
  • All my school records show my correct personal data.
  • All my records show my correct marks.
  • I have created a university/college file for all my documents and for any important dates and requirements.
  • I have spoken with teachers and with other students so that I have an idea of which courses will produce the heaviest workload for me.
  • With my Guidance counsellor, I have attempted to balance my timetable so that I do not have all the most difficult courses in the same semester.
  • I have completed the Matchmaker test on Career Cruising.
  • I have researched prerequisites for the program in which I am interested.
  • I have adjusted my timetable to meet the prerequisites and have put myself on a Wait List if necessary to get into the courses I need.
  • I have registered for an ACT or SAT exam, if you intend to apply to American schools.
  • I have attended at least three career exploration sessions when university/college representatives have come to my school.
  • I have researched scholarships and have noted the dates and the information required.
  • I have become a member of studentawards.com.
  • I have given plenty of advance notice to my three best teacher referees for letters of reference required for scholarships or special programs.
  • I have established an on-going relationship with my own Guidance counsellor so that I am known well enough to be recommended for awards, scholarships or programs.
  • I have given my résumé to my school counsellor to provide knowledge of my activities such as school and community involvement and leadership.
  • I have familiarized myself with university/college calendars.
  • I have considered the differences between college and university in an attempt to determine what is best for me.
  • I have investigated agreements, described in university/college calendars, as ‘articulation’ agreements, which will allow me to move from a college’s program to a university’s program without the usual prerequisites for university.
  • By October I have done a great deal of research and now I am ready to begin the actual application process.
